The MySpace page of Wu Fei already has some excerpts of „Yuan“ on offer, which show the album to be not only „soulful, lyrical and powerful“ (as Tzadik describe it), but also playful, upbeat and possessed by a natural inclination to combine the best of the past and the present to arrive at a spirited and holistic musical model for the future. Effectively, the former Beijinger cuts through cliches by demonstrating that traditional Chinese instruments can be used in the same inventive ways as classical Western ones. To show the effectivity of her philosophy, cultural site Danwei has shot a video featuring Wu Fei on location in a parc in Beijing, demonstrating the natural feedback of the Gu Zheng caused by wind movement and astounding techniques of culling the most amazing sounds from its strings by the use of self-built mallets and other objects.
„Yuan“ is scheduled for a release on November 25th, with DVD „Shan Qi“ to follow in February of next year.
