Wu Fei: Yuan and Shan Qi to mark breakthrough

Wu Fei is preparing for what may possibly constitue her breakthrough album. After firmly establishing herself on the New York scene, the Chinese Composer, Improviser and Gu Zheng master will release „Yuan“ on renowned and longstanding local Avantgarde label Tzadik at the end of this month. Her second CD follows in the footsteps of self-released „A Distant Youth“ and will present the full diversity of her oeuvre with pieces for Percussion, Piano (performed by Stephen Drury) and, of course, the Gu Zheng (performed by herself). The album cements her relationship with Tzadik, its label head John Zorn as well its eclectic roster of artists, with whom she has realised a plethora of projects over the past years. A US citizen for almost a decade now, Wu Fei has made it her task to present the wide range of ideas and concepts Contemporary Chinese music has to offer to the so-called Western World. With features on some of the leading online sites as well as an upcoming DVD publication on German outfit Ozella („Shan Qi“), her approach seems to have resounded with a public excited to find out about the experimental scene emerging in her home country.
