While many classical labels are having a hard time surviving, some outsiders
are only just discovering the record business. Take King FM, a radio station
from Seattle. Never shy from innovation, the broadcaster has already made
most information (such as all titles played around the clock) available to
surfers and offers its programme for online listening. Now, its product
range is being extended by a series of Classical CDs. Previously, KING FM
had offered recordings of local classical ensembles and has taken a new
approach for its latest album, based around a "nature"-theme. The aptly
titled "Green" will be distributed by Naxos and mark a remarkable success
for the station, which is already planning a Christmas-CD. This just goes to
show, that there is still a market for classical recordings, if companies
find clever ways of reaching customers.
