Ovro: Horizontal/Vertical & Revisited end Year of Silence

After spending most of 2007 all but exclusively with recording new pieces and remaining silent on the album front, 2008 is slowly turning into a comeback year for Ovro. Apparently dubbed “the wondergirl of Finnish dark ambient and experimental music" by some, a 7inch named “Horizontal/Vertical” will follow hot on the heels of “Revisited”, a completely reworked and extended version of her severely limited, self-released and long sold-out live album “Estraier”. “I didn't just settle down living quietly in the countryside, forgetting about the follies of making music”, Ovro said about her extended absence from the scene, “While keeping a (relatively) low profile, I've been working. Mostly on non-solo stuff, but still.” She now calls “Estraier” an “aural travelogue”, of which she appears to have remembered a lot of vivid details: “The (original) CDr was sent to those who pre-ordered Mosaick the Serpent / Vipera Aurea 2EP, with a small number of copies given away to Russian gig organizers and a few copies sold to those who knew to ask for it. This CDr was well received and there were queries about releasing it properly. I wasn’t quite as easily talked into that as with my first release, which consisted of only a single copy (‘Gegendurchgangenzeit’), but mulling the thought over, decided to take a new look at the material and seeing what would happen.” What happened was a release containing seven tracks including dark ambient drone works like “Commutare”, all highlighting threedimensional sound sculpting and a penchant for excavating every granular detail from her source materials.
