To unearth the essence of their pieces, Ocean spent the past two years constantly reworking their material, even recording complete version only to discard them in favour of more poignant ones. Live performances also played a seminal role with regards to “Pantheon of the Lesser”. “The Beacon”, for example, constituted their entire set while on tour with bands like Mono and Boris, where the five-piece occasionally took over an hour to reach the finish line.

Even after only a casual review of these two gargantuan works, predicting “Pantheon of the Lesser” to at least equal the success of its predecessor seems trivial. The bestial growls and morbidly downtuned Chords of “The Beacon”, divided into three distinct segments, flow seamlessly into a middle section composed of a forelorne bass and dreamy Drums, before a scream heralds the return of nightmarish visions. “Of the Lesser” continues in a similar vein, it’s granular Guitar drones even more ghastly and oppressive, like sailing through endless sheets of suffocating fog in board a ghost ship whose crew is about to awake in a bad mood.

To satisfy both their own and Important’s Vinyl fetish, “Pantheon of the Lesser” will be released as a 200g Vinyl gem in an edition, whose 500 limited copies are bound to be sold out on their first day, November 11th.
