Upcoming violin star sells ring tones

Polyphonic samples from Nicola Benedetti performing pieces by Camille Saint-Saens (Havanaise), Jules Massenet (Meditation) and Johannes Brahms (Contemplation) will be sold as ring tones for mobile phones. This latest effort to raise classical music's profile among teenagers, has already been praised by Julian de Ste Croix, chief executive of the Royal Scottish National Orchestra, who thought Nicola Benedetti "just the right person" and the idea "beneficial". We're actually not quite sure if this is good news or not and are rather of the opinion that the deal seems beneficial to Benedettis record company, who must be hard-pressed for some cash after signing a deal with the young violinist, reportedly worth a million pounds. Actually, it's not the first time classical music has been used to announce calls. Pianist Jeffrey Biegel from New York has already "recorded" more than 400 ring tones and the London Symphony Orchestra is also selling them through their site.
