A new release and a good introduction

The neoclassical movement doesn't represent a continuation of the line of great composers, but rather a break in regard to the compositional tool kit. While it derives its inspiration from a vaguely romantic vision of Classical Music, its methods stem from the Industrial scene - cutting and pasting, sampling and sequencing. It's Stravinsky through the eyes of a Computer. As such, it marks the ideal point of departure for everyone interested in bridging the gap between those two worlds. Now, Argentinian label Twilight Records has released "MM-MMV" by Finish act Pimentola, a record which could become something as a "learner's guide" to the genre. Everything's there: Sampled strings, timbals, orchestral passages, as well as Noise, Tribal Drumming and even some strummed guitars and Rock rhythms. The ingredients for this strange but superbly realised mix have hardly changed since the first demo by Lempo, the creative brain behind the music, but soundwise and conceptually speaking, "MM-MMV" is a decided step forwards. Long and luscious arrangements lead the listener into a land of mysticims and misery. Which is not to say that, the beauty of those plucked strings and softly blown horns on some of his previous efforts are not also worth checking out.
