Its title is a direct reference to a youth spent in Cuba and her new home in Bremen: “The blue of Cuban skies is completeley different from the blue of German skies”, Marialy Pacheco explained, “And then blue is also the colour and ambiance captured by every note of my Piano.” She knew exactly where she wanted to go for this effort: “Mi Azul” was recorded in just two days in Radio Bremen’s main broadcasting hall.
Even though “Mi Azul” focusses on the temperaments between keys and revels in oneiric introspection, there are also plenty of red-blooded outbursts of fire and passion to be found on the album. In this respect, the opening title track, with its groovy bass loops and soft, jazzy chords is a perfect example of Marialy Pacheco’s voice.
Marialy Pacheco shot to national fame at the age of 18, when she won a competition in Cuba. At the Chorolympiade in Bremen, she is feted by the jury and public alike, making use of the opportunity to found her trio. In 2005, she records the album “Bendiciones”, a first taste of her compositional talents, which she aims to fortify with pieces for various instrumentations, including string quartets.
