Despite Jim O’Rourke claiming not to know what album he was working on exactly, he did reveal that there were actually two full-lengths he was conceptualising. One of them was (as always) going to defy people’s expectations and “pretty much going to disappoint everybody”, while the other might well be what “people will have been hoping for” – if it was ever going to be released, that is: “It’s gonna take forever to record, if it is going to be at all possible. Even though the abovementioned news implies that new material by Jim O’Rourke is not exactly immanent, his fans can find some comfort in the fact that there is still plenty of good stuff to be pulled from the proverbial archives. “Long Night”, scheduled for August 8th, is a double CD release, featuring a 2,5 hour long dronescape realised by O’Rourke at the time of his graduation from music school. To be released on Drag City/Streamline, it offers a look into the earliest days of his oeuvre in a remastered edition.
