Huntsville: Eco, Arches & Eras shows Janus Face

Norwegian threepiece Huntsville are back with their second album on Oslo-based label Rune Grammofon. Planned as “another one for the middle classes”, “Eco, Arches & Eras” has turned out an ambitious and eclectic double album representatively touching upon the Janus face of the band. On the one hand, there is a studio disc, for which Huntsville invited over popular Sidsel Endresen and which perfectly delineates their “groove-based approach with strong elements of composition”. On a second CD, Ivar Grydeland (acoustic and electric guitars, banjo, pedal steel guitar, radio, voice, organ, sruti according to MySpace), Tonny Kluften (double bass, drum machine, clockenspiel ) and Ingar Zach (snare drums, tabla machine, sarangi box, shruti box, percussion) allow lazy couch potatoes a glance at their intoxicating live shows. Mixed by currently much-coveted Italian Sound designer and experimental artist Giuseppe Ielasi, this recording of their concert at the Kongsberg Jazzfestival in 2007 features Nels Cline and Glenn Kotche of Nouveau Folk Avantgarde leaders Wilco as special guests – a both intimate and explosive cocktail for sure.
