“In Darkness let me Dwell” is also the result of a life-long interest in John Dowland’s music on the part of Hille Perl, who has built a sustainable career as a performer and mediator in the field of music from the 17th and 18th century. Operating from her homebase in the utmost North of Germany, Perl has made it her task to make a wide public aware of the beauty of her instrument as well as the delirious diversity of works written for it. Teaching a select dozen of students at the University of Bremen, she has also taken on the responsability of keeping the tradition of the Gamba alive well into the 21st century.

For her recent chart sucess, she has again relied on a proven cast of like-minded friends: Lee Santana, whom Hille Perl has collaborated with for years, performs the Lute, while an ensemble composed of excuisite colleagues (bunched together under the constantly shifting Sirius Viols banner) supports them and Dorothee Mields on their mission. Praise in the German press has been unequivocal and for anyone interested in witnessing this group play live, there will be a concert in Berlin on 8th of January.
