What makes “Gloria” stand out is Gábor Boldoczki’s insistence on creating closed and cohesive classical worlds on his albums instead of merely cramming them with popular favourites and typical transcriptions. And there is always space for the necessary diversity in sound and approach: On two occasions, Hedwig Bilgram switches from Organ to Cemballo, while compatriot László Fenyó accompanies Boldoczki on Cello. As a result, “Gloria” is both an entertaining and stimulating listen, likely to please experienced audiences and newbies to the world of the Baroque Trumpet repertoire alike.
Ever since winning the 2004 Marc Andre competition, Gábor Boldoczki has been favourably compared to that award’s patron – generally accepted as one of the most outstanding Trumpetists ever. Sounding out a succesful year, Boldoczki will perform another three concerts to support “Gloria”: Berlin on 28.11, Hamburg on 3.12. as well as Munich on 17.12.
