The Edison is the Prize awarded to outstanding albums by the Dutch recording industry since 1960. On May 2nd, the winners for this year were announced during a special event held at the Concertgebouw in Amsterdam. And the Edisons go to:
- Chamber Music: Bela Bartók: Violin Sonatas
Christian Tetzlaff, Leif Ove Andsnes (They were called "perfect guides" through Bartoks uncompromising works) - Voice solo: Italian Opera Arias
Rolando Villazón (The jury praised not only his multilayered voice, but also his theatrical imagination) - Concertos: Sergei Rachmaninov: Piano Concertos nos. 1&2
Krystian Zimerman (Not only a technically superb rendition of a well-known classic, but also an interpretation that manages to unveil the highly personal background story to it) - Contemporary Music: Elliott Carter: What Next?
Paul Griffiths, Netherlands Radio Chamber Orchestra o.l.v. Peter Eötvös (A piece depicting humour, lyricism and an incredible vitality) - Medieval Music and Renaissance: Roland de Lassus: Il Canzoniere di Messer Francesco Petrarca
Heulgas-Ensemble, Paul van Nevel (The jury were impressed by the "strange attraction" of this recording and praised the natural playing of the musicians as well as the excellent production) - DVD: Guiseppe Verdi: Tosca’s Kiss
Sara Scuderi, Cambridge Theatre Orchestra/Alberto Erede (A documentary from 1984 on a house founded by Verdi, providing a home to elder Opera singers)

Violinist Janine Jansen received the Audience's Choice Award. This marks the second time the Dutch have voted their compatriate to the top of this category.
