The music for “Recomposed By Carl Craig & Moritz Von Oswald” took shape over the course of a full year. During this time, the musicians met both in Detroit and Berlin, shaping loops as a basis for improvisations. Striving for a spontaneous sound, they then chose unedited cuts from these sessions to build the album. As a natural consequence, the resulting tracks are neither completely typical for the solo work of Carl Craig and Moritz can Oswald, nor are they obviously connected to the originals by Mussorgsky and Ravel.
Rather, the music finds its own distinct niche between contemporary club music and classical concert halls, even though it tends more towards the former than the latter. Snippets of the album provided online by Deutsche Gramophone also point towards an organically coherent album, which eschews platitudes from both camps.
“Recomposed By Carl Craig & Moritz Von Oswald” will be available as a regular CD and a limited Double LP.
