For Pateras/Baxter/Brown, the tour will be part of the promotion campaign for their recently released second full-length “Interference” on Polish label emd.pl/records. That album featured the band performing their trademark “instant compositions”, which have been mistaken for live performances of Xenakis pieces on previous occasions. While Anthony Pateras features on Prepared Piano and David Brown on Prepared Guitar, an essential component of the sound of “Interference” was contributed by Percussionist and Drummer Sean Baxter – who occasionally manages to make his “standard drum kit” sound like a sizeable metallic orchestra.
Even though Pateras/Baxter/Brown have still to deliver on their idea of a completely unprepared album, their set still doesn’t include regular songs or tunes: “We have no "tracks" per se...”, Pateras told emd.pl/record’s Piotr Tkacz in an interview, “We simply come together and play - to do overdubs would defeat the purpose of the group. We often get asked whether we use electronics as well, which we don't. The sound of the group simply sounds like this sometimes.” As part of their recent activities, the trio is also set to release the first album by new record company (and now defunct former live event sensation) cave 12. “Live at l’Usine” is slated for October 27th through metamkine distribution.
All of this follows the publication of Patera’s second full length on Tzadik: “Chromatophore” is the result of five years of work and features collaborations with Natasha Anderson, Erkki Veltheim, the Ear Massage Percussion Quartet and “a killer performance with the Australian Chamber Orchestra”.
