Even though Alina Ibragimovic preferred the first to the second Violin Concerto, it was the prospect of world-premiering the latter on CD which prompted her to enter the studio: “Upon hearing some Piano pieces by Roslavets, I began to find out more about this composer”, Ibragimovic explained, “I later heard a recording of his first Violin Concerto by Tatjana Grindenko and the Saarbrücker Rundfunkorchester. When I finally found out about a second Violin Concerto, which hadn’t been recorded yet, it didn’t take me long to decide I wanted to release it!” The record comes shortly after Ibragimovic’ take on material by Karl Amadeus Hartmann, of which the following clip allows a first impression:
“Roslavets - Violin Concertos” will be released on Hyperion Records, a label which has already previously published pieces by Nikolaj Andrejevich Roslavets and thereby actively participated in the process of his gradual posthumous rectification as an important figure of the 20th century Avantgarde. Even though the focus of promotion will now be on the CD, Alina Ibragimova has extended an open invitation to concert halls to presents these works live and in concert: “I really hope I can find an organisor for them. It would certainly be a great enrichment for the concert reportoire. There’s also some wonderful chamber music by him, sonatas and small-scale works for Violin and Piano, which thoroughly deserve being performed more often.”
